The Raga of Revenge is one of the standout musical themes from the 2026 Tamil film DC, composed by Anirudh Ravichander. Originally created for the film’s trailer, the theme became widely popular for its distinctive use of Indian classical musical elements combined with modern cinematic production.


Unlike a conventional commercial song, Raga of Revenge is built around a powerful raga-inspired melodic idea, with swara-based vocals, Veena, rhythmic repetition, and cinematic arrangement working together to create a haunting and intense musical identity.

What makes this breakdown even more special is that the entire production, recording, and mixing of this recreation was done by the faculties of RM School of Sound & Music.

This gives us the opportunity to take apart the production from the inside and demonstrate how the individual musical and sonic elements can be recreated, arranged, recorded, and mixed to achieve a professional cinematic sound.



Musical Characteristics of the Theme


The core of Raga of Revenge comes from its Indian classical melodic language. The recurring swara phrases such as “Pa-Dha-Ni-Ga-Re-Sa-Re-Ni-Sa” form the central melodic identity of the theme.


Key characteristics:

  • Key: D minor

  • Tempo: ~120 BPM

  • Time Signature: 4/4

  • Raga-based melodic phrasing

  • Repetitive Sargam patterns

  • Expressive classical vocals

  • Layered cinematic instrumentation

  • Gradual development of musical intensity

  • Repetition used to establish a strong musical motif


The melody is intentionally simple and repetitive, allowing the listener to immediately recognise the theme while creating a sense of tension, mystery, and anticipation.


What Makes It Stand Out

One of the most interesting aspects of the production is how a traditional Indian classical melodic idea is transformed into a contemporary cinematic theme.


According to Anirudh, the Veena was used to record the swara melody first, and the vocal layer was added later. The Veena was then brought down in the mix to allow the vocal performance to become more prominent.
